St Mary's Catholic Primary School was established by the Archdiocese of Birmingham, and caters for pupils between the ages of 3 and 11.  It serves the Catholic parishes of Newcastle; Silverdale; Knutton; and pupils from the Waterhayes estate who reside in the parish of St John the Evangelist, Chesterton. Non-Catholic children will also be considered for admission.

Pupils are taught in 14 mixed ability classes, in the care of their own class teacher, who has responsibility for their education and welfare.

The school benefits from a large building with spacious classrooms, 2 networked ICT suites. It also has separate junior and infant playgrounds together with a purpose build play area for Foundation Stage children.
